Salt Lake City, UT – Today, the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance (SUWA) released its 2024 Stewardship Season Project Calendar. The Stewardship Program, now in its 9th season, offers service-learning opportunities that allow individuals to experience firsthand the public lands SUWA is working with members and supporters to protect. This year’s calendar includes 26 projects, ranging from remote wilderness study areas in the West Desert to the ancient canyons of Utah’s restored national monuments; all are included within or are adjacent to lands proposed for wilderness in America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act. View the full project calendar and application form.

“Whether you’re a self-proclaimed desert rat or making your first trip to southern Utah, joining a SUWA stewardship trip is a great way to give back to the spectacular redrock wilderness,” said Stewardship Program Director Jeremy Lynch. “Developing a hands-on connection to the places we’re working to protect is an experience that can’t be underestimated.”

The 2024 project calendar includes everything from short stints in designated wilderness areas (Cedar Mountain Wilderness) to four- and five-day-long excursions into wilderness-eligible lands (Elk Ridge). In addition to first-time project locations (Cathedral Valley), volunteers will continue stewardship and restoration efforts in multiple locations within Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (Circle Cliffs, Southern Wilds, Northern Reaches). Learn about the 2023 Stewardship Season, which included over 2,300 volunteer hours, here

Registration will fill up quickly so we encourage interested individuals to apply as soon as possible. SUWA has scholarships available for students enrolled at least half-time in an accredited college, university, vocational school, or technical school in Utah who would like to join a stewardship project. If you have any questions about a project, please reach out to Stewardship Director Jeremy Lynch at volunteer@suwa.org or by calling (435) 259-9151.
