Stewardship Scholarships
Thank you for your interest in joining a SUWA Stewardship Project on scholarship!
SUWA acknowledges the structural barriers many communities face when seeking solace in wild, natural places. Our scholarship supports opportunities to experience magnificent public lands while learning about local ecology, cultural history, management and more – all while training in stewardship strategies that help protect our environment.
Our program offers scholarships to support the following individuals and groups:
- Student Groups and Clubs;
- Community Organizations;
- Individuals seeking to learn more about public lands and SUWA!
Scholars join a multi-day project, work with other volunteers, SUWA staff, and federal land managers to learn what it takes to manage and protect the landscapes, plants and animals that make Utah’s wilderness so special!
Eligibility
Applicants are asked to demonstrate a need for financial support. Scholars attend (1) stewardship project with SUWA staff and other volunteers. Following the project, scholars also receive a (1) year membership to SUWA and access to additional opportunities to learn more about our organization, public lands and wilderness in Utah. Upon completion of the program, SUWA awards a scholarship.
Camping gear and other supplies, as well as transportation to and from the project site may also be provided upon request. Select meals and additional food are provided. Opportunities for carpooling and gas stipends are also offered.
Scholarships are available to individuals and organized partner groups.

To apply, first contact your regional SUWA Grassroots Organizer for a meet and greet. Select from the list below. Once sponsored by your Organizer, you will submit a formal application to our Stewardship Director. Once accepted, you will be placed on a project that best fits your interests and availability.
