Commissioners: San Juan bill could include Hovenweep, Canyonlands expansion

“So far the initiative to expand the monument is not experiencing any protestors
or disfavor,” said San Juan County Commissioner Lynn Stevens.

Enlarging
the monument could be accomplished in several ways, including congressional
legislation, a cooperative management agreement between the National Park
Service and the BLM, and the trade out of land holdings by private landowners

Nine Mile Canyon coalition seeks oral histories

An advocacy coalition that seeks to protect what has been called
the world’s largest natural art gallery is seeking oral histories on
Nine Mile Canyon.

While
many residents from Utah and beyond are aware of the canyon’s massive
collection of rock art panels and other prehistoric cultural resources,
less known are details about the canyon’s modern history and its
