Salt Lake City, UT – Today, the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance (SUWA) released its 2025 Stewardship Season Project Calendar. The Stewardship Program, now in its 10th season, offers service-learning opportunities that allow volunteers to experience firsthand the public lands SUWA is working with its members and supporters to protect. This year’s calendar includes 26 projects, with several projects in designated Wilderness areas (Cedar Mountain, Dark Canyon, & Washington County) and half the projects occurring in Grand Staircase-Escalante or Bears Ears National Monuments. Review the full project calendar and application form.

“SUWA’s Stewardship program has grown from humble beginnings into a successful and sought-after way for volunteers to develop hands-on connections to wild places in Utah – whether that’s in the peaks of the West Desert, the badlands of the San Rafael Desert, or the canyons of Grand Staircase-Escalante,” said Jeremy Lynch, SUWA Stewardship Director. “I hope we see you on a trip this year, deepening your relationship with the remarkable public lands in Utah.”

During the 2025 project season, the shortest trips are three days/two nights (7 trips) and the longest is 5 days/4 nights (2 trips). This year, there will be six trips focused on designated Wilderness Implementation, including two to the San Rafael Swell (in support of the 2019 Dingell Act); and 20 trips focused on Wilderness Study Area (WSA) Protection and Monitoring; WSAs are eligible as wilderness under SUWA’s signature legislation, America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act. Plus, we anticipate additional projects will be added to the calendar as the season progresses! Receive the latest updates by completing a general application here. Learn about the 2024 Stewardship Season, which included over 3,760 volunteer hours from 202 volunteers, here
