This week, SUWA's freshest face, Executive Directo This week, SUWA's freshest face, Executive Director Scott Braden, spent time with our legislative team in Washington DC to meet with Senators, members of Congress, and community partners to discuss his vision for wilderness on public lands in Utah. Meetings included our redrock champions Rep. Melanie Stansbury and Sen. Dick Durbin, members of the Utah delegation, and leaders in the wilderness and public lands advocacy space based there.

Additionally, Scott joined our DC staff and friends organizations at a "Don't Sell My Public Lands" visibility event during Interior Sec. Doug Burgum's hearings on the Trump Administration's budget. SUWA's strength at the DC level is vital to ensuring public lands remain public. Reach out to your reps to co-sponsor America's Red Rock Wilderness today by visiting: suwa.org/arrwa119

Senator Mike Lee from Utah released plans yesterda Senator Mike Lee from Utah released plans yesterday that would force the sale of millions of acres of public lands across the West to pay for tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy. After refusing to provide details for weeks, he released the Energy and Natural Resources Committee’s text for the FY25 Budget Reconciliation Bill, which is currently being considered by the Senate. The text requires the Department of the Interior and US Forest Service to offer up millions of acres of public land across 11 western states (AK, AZ, CA, CO, ID, NV, NM, OR, UT, WA, and WY) for sale.

As we feared, the public lands sell-off amendment As we feared, the public lands sell-off amendment is back. Today, during a Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Hearing on the Department of the Interior’s (DOI) FY 2026 Budget, DOI Secretary Burgum confirmed that Senator Lee (R-UT) plans to introduce a Public Lands Sell-off Amendment into the FY25 Budget Reconciliation Bill, currently being considered by the Senate.

According to Secretary Burgum’s testimony, the Amendment would require DOI to offer up approximately 2 million acres of public land across Utah, Idaho, Nevada, and Alaska for sale.

Keep the pressue on and reach out to your Senators! Visit: suwa.org/callyoursenator to ACT NOW and keep public land sell-off out of this betrayal of a budget bill.

Join us in keeping the pressure on! Senator Mike L Join us in keeping the pressure on! Senator Mike Lee has announced plans reintroduce a Public Lands Sell-off Amendment in the Senate version of the Budget Bill, similar to the version which was just rejected by the House. This sell-off amendment would have forced the sale of hundreds of thousands of acres of public land across the West. Even without the amendment, the Budget Bill is deeply anti-conservational.

TAKE ACTION NOW by urging your Senators to keep public lands sell-off out of the Budget Bill and to vote NO on any version of the bill that threatens our nation’s public lands by visiting: http://suwa.org/callyoursenator
