For months now, we’ve been warning you about potential sell-off threats to public lands. On Tuesday, House Republicans unveiled new, targeted attacks specifically on public lands in Utah and Nevada. We need you to use your voice and speak up for public lands.
For nearly 15 hours, House Democrats on the Natural Resources Committee fought hard to keep a barrage of attacks on public lands from being included in an extreme, anti-conservation budget reconciliation bill that will fund tax cuts for billionaires. Despite their best efforts, the budget bill passed out of committee.
Late on Tuesday evening, in an attempt to evade public scrutiny, Reps. Maloy (R-UT-2) and Amodei (R-NV-2) introduced a last-minute, never-before-seen amendment to sell off tens of thousands of acres of public lands, more than 10,000 of which are in Utah’s Washington and Beaver counties. There are no restrictions on what these lands can be sold for; this action is best described as short-sighted and irreversible.
As this awful bill moves forward, there will be multiple opportunities to stop it—and we’ll be asking for your help until it’s defeated. Please call your representative today and let them know you oppose House Budget Reconciliation Bill and its sell-off of public lands.
Thank you for standing up for wild Utah! Please consider forwarding this alert on your friends, family, and colleagues who you know love public lands.
