Take Action to Protect the Boundary Waters Wilderness!

Jan 15th, 2026 Written by suwa

Like southern Utah’s redrock country, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northeast Minnesota is a place of stunning beauty and peace; both are true gems in America’s system of public lands. But right now, Boundary Waters is in danger like never before from attacks by the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress. Similar threats could soon be coming for the redrock, and we need to stop this effort in its tracks!

The Boundary Waters is a sprawling area of interconnected lakes and boreal forests that is beloved by millions of Americans and international visitors; it is popular for canoeing, fishing, hiking, and camping. Biden-era Interior Secretary Deb Haaland protected the watershed that feeds and supports the Boundary Waters from copper mining by a Chilean-owned company by enacting a 20-year mineral withdrawal on public lands. Local guides and outfitters, nearby communities, and recreationists of all stripes widely supported the withdrawal. All of that is now at risk.

Earlier this week, Representative Pete Stauber (R-MN-08) introduced a “Joint Resolution” in the U.S. House of Representatives that, if passed, would undo the mineral withdrawal currently protecting the Boundary Waters. Rep. Stauber is trying to leverage an obscure law—the Congressional Review Act—to fast-track a vote on his resolution, and a vote by the full House could come as early as next week!

Please take action TODAY to protect the Boundary Waters. Urge your representative to vote NO on House Joint Resolution 140 and tell them you support keeping the Boundary Waters wild, which in turn supports local communities and jobs.
