Speak up for the Swell with SUWA!

It’s a common question in the spring and early summer: are you headed down to the Swell? Whether you’re a lifelong Utahn or a recent transplant, the San Rafael Swell is a landscape you’ve almost certainly visited – maybe even without realizing it! Bisected by I-70, the Swell provides endless opportunities for hiking, camping, and relaxing with family and friends. And we need you to speak up for the Swell and help us protect what makes it so special

What: Speak up for the Swell with SUWA!

When: Thursday, June 27 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Where: SUWA’s Salt Lake City Office (425 East 100 South, SLC, UT 84111).

Additional info: Beverages (including beer from Red Rock Brewery) and snacks will be provided. Street parking is limited (2-hour parking is available on 100 South); if possible, we encourage you to bike (we have plenty of bike parking!), take GreenBike or public transportation, carpool, etc.

Please RSVP to let us know you’re coming!

During this information and education session, we’ll discuss the Bureau of Land Management (BLM)’s draft travel management plan for the San Rafael Swell—a plan that will determine where off-road vehicle (ORV) use is allowed in this spectacular landscape for decades to come. We’ll also hear from fellow activists about why they’re speaking up for Swell, and conclude by helping you write your own public comment to submit to the BLM.

This is a critical moment for the Swell – the agency is under extraordinary pressure to expand damaging off-road vehicle routes. Some proposals under consideration would make it nearly impossible to escape the sight and sound of vehicles. It’s imperative that BLM strike the right balance between motorized and non-motorized users  – and you can help ensure this happens!

Let us know you’re coming on June 27 – and invite friends, family, and colleagues who you know also love the Swell. Thanks!
