On May 16, @patagoniapasadena hosted “Mobilizing On May 16, @patagoniapasadena hosted “Mobilizing for Monuments,” a film and panel conversation. A benefit for public lands and wilderness organization CalWild, it was cosponsored by @lanatureforall, @calwildorg, @EnvironmentallyU, @outdoorafro, @protectwildutah, and @1percentftp. Focused on shared values of environmental and social responsibility and with growing environmental and political challenges to public lands, the orgs gathered around the urgent opportunity to unite diverse voices to ensure future decisions reflect the values of the people who cherish and depend on these spaces.

The film documented a road trip from Colorado to California featuring voices from Tribes, conservation groups, outdoor companies, and recreationalists advocating for new national Monuments designation. Most of the proposed monuments were established but are now threatened. T’Essence Minnitee, co-founder of Environmentally U, moderated the panel on protecting public lands through the lenses of 30x30, culture, and environmental justice; it Margareta Lopez-Pelayo of Nature for All, Linda Castro of CalWild, Johanna Iraheta of We Still Move, and SUWA West Coast Organizer, Jenny Holmes.

Holmes spoke about the lessons learned in working with Tribes to support the establishment of, and ongoing efforts to protect, Bears Ears National Monument, as well as the vital importance of California cosponsors of America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act, SUWA’s signature legislation.

❗TAKE ACTION NOW❗The Bureau of Land Management ❗TAKE ACTION NOW❗The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is moving forward with plans to sell 14 oil and gas leases encompassing over 19,000 acres in Utah. One lease is located right in the heart of the scenic White River corridor, spanning both sides of the river. Submit your comment by Friday, June 6th.

The White River cuts a rugged, winding trough across the high desert plains of eastern Utah’s Uinta Basin. The BLM has said that the White River “. . . is a place to paddle, watch wildlife, and occasionally leave the river for an unforgettable hike. This is one of the quiet places, where solitude and a sense of adventure are still very much a part of the outdoor experience.”

New Merch Alert! Meet the Golden Cathedral Hooded New Merch Alert! Meet the Golden Cathedral Hooded Sweatshirt. Inspired by The Golden Cathedral—a stunning natural amphitheater tucked deep within Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument

We’re thrilled to unveil our brand-new hoodie featuring original artwork by local artist @annaleighmoo. Available in Dusty Sage and Sandstone, it's soft, cozy, and made to last—just like our commitment to protecting America’s redrock wilderness.

The artwork was generously donated to SUWA by Utah-based artist Anna Leigh Moore, whose deep connection to the land guides her creative process. “Sublime moments in nature inform my art,” she writes, “while the act of creating brings soul to every outdoor adventure.”

We’re honored to collaborate with Anna on this special piece—and even more honored to protect the places that inspire it! Visit suwa.org/shop to get yours today! Limited quantity so get em' before they're gone.
Great news: the Public Lands Sell-off Amendment ha Great news: the Public Lands Sell-off Amendment has been removed from the House Reconciliation Bill!

“As we hoped would be the case, Rep. Maloy’s stunt failed. She’s just the latest in a long list of politicians with the bad idea to try and sell off public lands,” said Travis Hammill, DC Director for the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance (SUWA). “The through line of those failed efforts is this: love of public lands transcends geography and political party. Americans don’t want to see these lands sold off and time and time again have risen up to make their voices heard.”
