40th Anniversary Celebration

Saturday, September 9th, 2023
6:30 – 10:00pm
Natural History Museum of Utah
at the Rio Tinto Center
301 Wakara Way, Salt Lake City

We’re going to party like it’s 1983, so retro attire is highly encouraged—or simply come as you are!

Join us for an evening filled with delicious appetizers from Done To Your Taste, beats from Miner Music DJ, and a bit of friendly competition at our nostalgic gaming arcade! We’ll also have a fun photo booth where you can pose in costume or simply show your support for wild Utah, and we’ll be rolling out some exciting new 40th anniversary swag! Executive Director Scott Groene and members of the board will give a brief address at 8:00 pm.

Special thanks to our friends at Mountain West Hard Cider and Fisher Brewing Company for their generous provisions of locally brewed cider and beer. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available (two drink tickets included with entry).

In 1983, the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance was founded around a kitchen table by a small group of people who loved Utah’s redrock wilderness and wanted to protect the best of it.  They laid the foundation for an organization—and a national movement—out of their passion for one of the most amazing landscapes on earth.

Forty years later, SUWA is stronger than ever thanks to the support of tens of thousands of people who share a love for these special places. Against the odds, more than 98 percent of the wild lands in Utah we work to protect are still wild because people like you are willing to stand in their defense.

Together we’ve secured wilderness designations in the San Rafael Swell, Cedar Mountains, Zion-Mojave region, and Labyrinth and Desolation Canyons; we’ve helped establish and defend monument designations for Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears National Monuments; and we’ve protected vast expanses of Utah’s redrock country from mining, fossil fuel development, off-road vehicle damage, vegetation removal, and other ongoing threats.

Please join us in celebrating all of our past accomplishments and looking forward to the next exciting chapter of the Utah Wilderness movement!
