Yesterday, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) rel Yesterday, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) released the final environmental assessment and proposed resource management plan (RMP) amendment for the San Rafael Swell Recreation Area and surrounding region. As a result of the 2019 Dingell Act, which included new land management designations and established the Recreation Area, the BLM was required to update its management plan for each of the affected areas.

Above is a statement from SUWA Wildlands Director Neal Clark. For more info, visit:

Utah’s San Rafael Swell and San Rafael Desert are Utah’s San Rafael Swell and San Rafael Desert are known for their sinuous slot canyons, soaring redrock cliffs, and prominent buttes.

Unfortunately, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is considering substantially expanding damaging off-road vehicle use across these landscapes, including destinations such as Mexican Mountain, Buckhorn Draw, Tomsich Butte, Sweetwater Reef, and the San Rafael Swell Recreation Area.

Please submit two comments for BOTH the Swell and the San Rafael Desert. Links in bio.

SUWA has partnered with Salt Lake City based artist Lizzie Wenger on a new T-shirt design featuring her generously donated artwork depicting Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument along the Burr Trail.

Lizzie considers herself a student of land and believes that we have many lessons to learn from our natural world if we pay attention. Her work is intended to inspire connectivity between people and places, to share the healing forces of nature, and to celebrate her own relationship with the outdoors.

Made from 100% cotton and available in both a classic tee and boxy cropped fit, this limited-edition ivory colored shirt is just $25 and comes in a full range of sizes -- just in time for summer!

Shop now at suwa.org/shop. *Note: sales have surpassed our expectations and we'll restock sizes by mid-June. Thanks for your patience!*
Today the Department of the Interior announced its Today the Department of the Interior announced its rescission of the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Public Lands Rule.

The Public Lands Rule established a “… framework to ensure healthy landscapes, abundant wildlife habitat, clean water, and balanced decision-making on our nation’s public lands.” It did not preclude any uses on BLM-managed public lands; it puts conservation on equal footing with grazing, mining, and energy production, and promoted restoration, provided for responsible development, and conserved intact healthy landscapes.

The Rule was the product of an extensive, years-long public process with multiple in-person and online meetings and opportunities for public comment. 92% of the comments received by BLM supported the Rule.
