SUMMARY:Cedar Mountain Wilderness Service Project
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Earth Day 2018 on a two-day service project with SUWA’s Field Volunteers in the Cedar Mountains Wilderness this April. \nWe will work across the Cedar Mountain Wilderness managing the impacts of motorized travel and illegal camping. \nThis Project is rated: \nLevel 2 – Our most common trip incorporates mid- to heavy-lifting\, work in remote landscapes at varying elevations\, an increased diversity of tool use\, and an emphasis on physical fitness and hiking competency. \nWorkday Scope & Project Details\nThe workday is 8:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday. For those able to join\, we will continue our Mobile Monitoring of Wilderness Areas Sunday morning to mid-day. Dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday is provided. Lunches are Bring Your Own. \nWork tasks will vary by need\, and are slated to include: \n\nrehabilitating hill climbs off of designated routes;\nmotorized track rehabilitation;\nvertical mulching to define end of motorized travel area;\ncampsite removal and trash clean-up;\nre-establishing broken or damage signage;\nbuilding fencing to mark the end of motorized travel\n\nRegistered volunteers will receive a complete itinerary. DESCRIPTION:Join the Field Volunteers in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument for a two-day service project this April. We will work with The Escalante Interagency Office – selected as a Leave No Trace hotspot in 2018 – to address trail and travel impacts along the Burr Trail and Wolverine Road. \n\nOur work will continue efforts to manage high impact areas in the monument\, bolstering minimalist infrastructure to ensure protection of fragile\, localized ecosystems. \nThis Project is rated: \nLevel 2 – Our most common trip incorporates mid- to heavy-lifting\, work in remote landscapes at varying elevations\, an increased diversity of tool use\, and an emphasis on physical fitness and hiking competency. \nWorkday Scope & Project Details\nThe workday is 9:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. SUMMARY:Wilderness Stewards Training in Washington County
DESCRIPTION:Join BLM Staff and the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance for the inaugural Wilderness Stewards Training on Saturday\, February 3rd and Sunday\, February 4th in St. George\, Utah. \nBecome a Wilderness Steward in Washington County and learn how you can work directly and locally to improve on the ground conditions and support the health of our public lands. \nOver the course of a two-day training\, BLM and SUWA staff will provide instruction and education in wilderness monitoring and public lands stewardship. Volunteers will learn: \n– The location and extent of Washington County’s wilderness areas;\n– How to locate and navigate wilderness boundaries using the latest digital software;\n– Installing and maintaining wilderness boundary markers;\n– Strategies for ‘reading the landscape’ for user impacts;\n– Techniques for rehabilitating impacted landscapes;\n– How to record and submit your field observations – and more! \nDay 1 of the training will take place at the St. George BLM office on Riverside Drive. On Day 2\, volunteers will travel into the field to practice what they’ve learned. \nThe Wilderness Stewards Training is co-hosted by the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance’s Field Volunteer Program. \nContact volunteer@suwa.org to register and learn more.
