SUMMARY:Defend the Sacred Powwow
DESCRIPTION:The 3rd Annual PANDOS “Defend the Sacred” Powwow takes place September 27 & 28\, 2019 at Dow James Park\, 438 W 400 N in Tooele\, Utah. This powwow will bring Native and non-Native communities together to familiarize traditional culture of song and dance. The event will help foster cultural understanding and education as well as a respect for the natural world for the future. The powwow is fun for the whole family\, and includes a PANDOS Princess Pageant\, Saturday at 10:00am that you don’t want to miss! \nSUWA is sponsoring the event and is hosting an information booth to educate attendees about our work and promote activism to Protect Wild Utah. \nTwo volunteers are needed to staff SUWA’s booth each day\, Friday evening from 5:00-9:00pm\, and Saturday from noon-6:00pm. SUMMARY:Avenues Street Fair
DESCRIPTION:Stop by the SUWA redrock activism booth at this year’s Avenues Street Fair. \nThe Avenues Street Fair began in Salt Lake City\, Utah\, in the 1970s as a remodeling tool exchange. It expanded into a home tour event to see everyone’s handiwork with the borrowed tools\, and eventually became a true street fair and is now one of Utah’s premier community celebrations. We hold the Avenues Street Fair on a different street each year to highlight the eclectic architecture and history of the Avenues neighborhoods.  After gaining resident and City approval\, we block off five blocks of one of the Avenues east-west streets\, set up a stage at each end of the fair for all-day live music\, and we fill both sides of the street with 200 booths of local arts and crafts\, food vendors\, government agencies and local non-profit organizations providing information and unique experiences. \nThis year’s event will be held on 2nd Avenue between M and R Streets\, Salt Lake City\, 84103  https://goo.gl/maps/2CbsjuP4EE83GKaHA. \nCome by and learn how we all came together to win wilderness protection for 663\,000 acres of the San Rafael Swell\, Labyrinth Canyon and Desolation Canyon earlier this year! DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, April 23\, 6:00-8:30pm\nLocation: Church & State\, 370 S 300 E\, Salt Lake City\, UT 84111 \nHear from leaders in the fight against climate change in Utah. \nPanelists include Deborah Burney-Sigman the Executive Director of Breathe Utah\, Dave Pacheco Grassroots Organizer from Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance\, and Michael Shea Senior Policy Associate from HEAL Utah. \nThe panel will be followed by a screening and presentation of Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance‘s Wild Utah. This 14-minute short\, award winning documentary is an advocacy film for Utah’s last remaining wild places. SUWA advocates for protecting more than 9 million acres of federally managed public lands as Wilderness\, areas of pristine natural beauty\, unique and untrammeled ecosystems\, and unfathomable cultural significance. This film takes the viewer through the diverse landscape and draws upon diverse voices to tell the story of why these lands are worth protecting\, why oil and gas production\, off-road vehicle use\, mining\, and even politicians are risking the integrity of the landscape\, and what can be done to ensure these public lands are protected for generations to come.
